How to Dispute a Parking Fine in NT (2026)
The Northern Territory reviews parking fines under the Fines and Penalties (Recovery) Act 2001, through either NT Police or the issuing council (like the City of Darwin) depending on who originally issued the notice.

Common questions
Who reviews my fine in the NT — police or the council?
Whichever issued it. Check your notice — a council ranger's fine goes to that council, a police-issued fine goes to NT Police.
What's the deadline in the NT?
28 days from when the notice was issued.
What if my ticket was displayed but not seen by the inspecting officer?
That's a recognised, common ground — the key is being able to show a valid ticket was purchased at the time, even if it wasn't visible when checked.
